🎉 2026 NTHU EMI CertPT Workshop

🎉 2026 NTHU EMI CertPT Workshop Concludes Successfully!

Making EMI More Than English-Medium Instruction—Creating Interactive, Meaningful Learning Experiences

Organized by the NTHU Center for EMI Excellence, the 2026 NTHU EMI CertPT Workshop successfully concluded on June 26 after a five-day intensive training program. Based on the Trinity College London CertPT international certification framework, the workshop supported lecturers from diverse disciplines in bridging EMI concepts with classroom practice through systematic training and hands-on activities, while exploring more interactive and student-centered approaches to teaching in English.

In his opening remarks, NTHU Vice President for Academic Affairs Prof. Yi-Wen Liu emphasized that EMI is more than simply “teaching in English.” Its core lies in creating classrooms where students actively engage, express their ideas, and deepen their learning through interaction and authentic contexts. He highlighted the importance of fostering meaningful interaction between local and international students within the classroom, rather than merely having them share the same physical space. Prof. Liu also expressed his appreciation to faculty members from diverse fields, including engineering, management, and the humanities, for dedicating their summer to EMI professional development and working together to create more inspiring learning environments.

Throughout the five-day workshop, participants explored key EMI topics, including course design, classroom English, interactive teaching strategies, student engagement, and AI-enhanced teaching practices. Through Micro-teaching sessions, participants practiced lesson delivery and received constructive feedback from trainers and peers, transforming EMI principles into practical strategies for their own classrooms.

Beyond professional training, the workshop fostered cross-disciplinary exchange and collaboration. Faculty members from different fields shared experiences, discussed challenges, and explored new possibilities for EMI teaching, building a supportive professional community committed to continuous growth and innovation.
