2026 CertPT Workshop 精彩回顧 | Voices, Reflections & a Journey into EMI

EMI Is More Than Teaching in English

EMI is not simply about switching the language of instruction to English.

Once they stepped into the classroom, our teachers found that the questions were often much bigger:

What can we do when students are afraid to speak?
How can students from different cultural backgrounds learn together?
Why is it that, even after putting students into groups, only one person ends up doing the talking?
How do we know whether students are truly keeping up?

At the 2026 NTHU EMI CertPT Workshop, five teachers brought their own teaching experiences, challenges, and questions—and together, they rethought what an EMI classroom could be.

💬 Teacher A: “Helping students feel that they are in a safe environment where they can speak English.”

💬 Teacher B: “Students’ backgrounds are a variable that we simply cannot ignore in the classroom.”

💬 Teacher C: “English is not actually what we are teaching. English is simply a tool.”

💬 Teacher D: “Putting ourselves in our students’ shoes and seeing the learning support they truly need.”

💬 Teacher E: “Exchanging ideas with other teachers—even something as small as an idea—can become a new approach to bring back to the classroom.”

EMI doesn’t have to be something you figure out on your own.

Over five days of professional development, teachers from different disciplines shared challenges, exchanged strategies, and discovered new possibilities through one another’s classroom experiences.

From “my classroom” to “our EMI,”
one teacher’s questions can become a shared learning journey for many.
